On October 20, 2021, "China-Sweden Forum: Safety, Smart and Intelligent Transport," jointly organized by the China Society of Automotive Engineers and China-Sweden Research Center for Traffic Safety(CTS), was successfully held at Shanghai Automobile Exhibition Center. As one of the crucial sessions of the 2021 China-SAE Congress & Exhibition (SAECCE2021), this forum invited experts and scholars from China and Sweden to focus on the technical progress, latest research achievements, technologies, and industrialization prospects in traffic safety and intelligent transportation between China and Sweden.

FU Yufang, Chairperson of Scientific Research Committee of CTS, Director and Researcher of Science and Technology, Department of Research Institute of Highway, Ministry of Transport, is the chairman and moderator of the forum.

During the forum, four experts and scholars from the Institute of Highway Science of the Ministry of Transport, Tongji University, Tsinghua University, and Hebei Provincial Communications Planning and Design Institute delivered excellent keynote speeches. The guests from Volvo Car Cooperation, Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute (VTI), delivered video speeches.

First, Hou Dezao delivered a speech on "Research on Dynamic Risk Assessment Technology of Collaborative Autonomous Driving." He analyzed the impact of autonomous vehicles on traffic safety risks and the trend of safety risk changes under different penetration rates of the autonomous vehicle. Then, He established a multi-dimensional risk assessment and traffic discriminant model in heterogeneous traffic scenarios where mixed autonomous and manual driving are. He examined the impact of each risk factor on the state of traffic flow under different penetration rates to perform quantitative calculations to achieve accurate identification of high-risk road sections.

Tu Huizhao delivered a speech on "Shanghai Risk Management of Autonomous Vehicles Road Testing," covering data integration, demonstration operations, system integration, vehicle-road collaboration, and business exploration. He summarizes the breakthroughs in Shanghai's autonomous driving road test. He introduces the risk management of autonomous driving road testing in detail from the five perspectives of risk challenges facing: traditional traffic travel risks, artificial intelligence governance risks, vehicle-road coordination technology risks, policies, laws, regulations, and emerging traffic travel risks.

Subsequently, Nie Bingbing delivered a speech on "Safety Envelope of Pedestrians Upon Motor Vehicle Conflicts Identified via Active Avoidance Behavior," focusing on pedestrians, a vulnerable traffic group, to study their natural avoidance behavior and vehicle risk domain research. The research integrates the vehicle's active collision avoidance and passive safety and establishes an immersive VR scene-based pedestrian natural stress response test platform. The platform captures the feedback of personnel, quantifies the decision-making behavior and dynamic behavior when encountering danger, quantifies the interaction process between people and vehicles, and then into the quantitative judgment of personnel behavior, then establishes people's self-help hedging ability.

Afterward, Li Chunjie delivered a speech of "Standard System Supports the Development of Safer Intelligent Transportation Systems," focusing on major national strategies and intelligent highway projects' construction and development, such as Xiong'an New Area in Hebei Province, Rongwu, Jingxiong. He introduced the support of Xiong'an New Area's intelligent transportation standard system to national strategies and significant projects, focused on building a set of internationally advanced intelligent transportation standard systems, reflecting the characteristics of regional synergy, and embodying Xiong'an's features.

In the video speech "Driver free mobility – Paradigm Shift in Occupant Protection Evaluation," Thomas Broberg proposed that due to the emergence of new technologies such as autonomous driving, the way of using cars and meeting user needs promotes the paradigm of occupant safety protection. Volvo Cars follow the human-oriented principle to complete the entire safety protection process and use a human body model with comprehensive injury prediction capabilities to conduct safety simulation assessments.

Finally, in the video speech " Traffic Safety Research by Using Driving Simulation, " Jonas Jansson introduced the role of raising the advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and other anti-collision technologies in reducing traffic accidents, as well as the impact of human behavior and vehicle interaction on the effectiveness of vehicle design and system safety. He then pointed out the challenge of VTI taking further measures in road safety in the video and described VTI's research work to use driving simulation to understand behavior better.
